March Of The Machines

March Of The Machines

Technology is making our lives simpler, and helping industry to be more efficient, but is it at the cost of our jobs?

Everyone thinks about "what they want to be when they grow up". Do you have to take another look at what you've planned, or start thinking of a new career, because of advances in technology? If you think about it, it's a good thing that we've r
olled out the ACP program, because it's important to be aware of what your talents, skill, and abilities are, and how they align with what's waiting out there in the world.

What is the job market going to look like when you look for that first job?

Discuss this idea. I've just given you a couple of questions to get the thought process going.

  1. When I get my 1st job, the job market will look the same because technology will not advance that quickly to have my job replaced.

    1. That is true mostly because not allot of jobs could be replaced because of our harsh wether.

    2. i agree with tad our weather is too bad for anyone to lose there jobs and try to find a new one around here.

  2. I don't think that technology will be extremely advanced by the time that I get my first job. But maybe in 50 years, technology will be very advanced and change the job market.

    1. I agree that technology will advance greatly in the future, but it won't be that fast.

    2. I agree because robots don't have the same emotional skills as people for jobs like social workers and counselors.

    3. I agree with tanner, for technology to take over our jobs it was take 50-60 years to have the advanced technology needed to replace humans

    4. I agree that technology might be extremely advanced in like 50 year.

    5. I agree with Kole they can't talk to people and make them feel better. I don't thing that they would affect are generation but, maybe are kids would have robots taking are jobs.

  3. If technology was to advance by the time of my first job, it wouldn't be that great of an advancement. The only thing that I can actually think that they could come out with is like a system that washes dishes instantly with human operation.

    1. I agree because technology won't be that good for industrial use compared to simpler jobs.

    2. I agree with tanner, I dont think technology will be that advanced to change the whole work industry

  4. Technology will not be advanced enough to take our drops for more then 10 years because i don't think every business would want all robots to work for them.

    1. I agree who is going to make pizzas and food at restaurants.

    2. I agree because some jobs require people to interact with customers, also not all companies, especially smaller ones can afford to buy big and expensive machines.

    3. I agree a robot can't be a lawyer and can't be a cop. I don't think a robot can't do any jobs that deal with talking to people.

  5. I feel technology is and isn't at the cost of jobs. Some technology completely takes over jobs but there is some technology that needs to be ran by people. I've had my first job and there is a lot of technology involved. For example were I worked ( Dan's Auto Body) uses a lot of technology and only has two people working full time and two people working part time. For me it's just knowing how to run the technology and there is also some jobs that we prefer to do hands on.

    1. i agree because a lot of the jobs nowadays have to due with the computers and manufacturing so you will have to know a lot about technology for the years coming

  6. with what I want to do, I don't think i need to worry about having it taken over by technology. but there are people who's jobs are getting taken over by technology. i feel like the people who are making this technology are only thinking about themselves and that making them is their job, but the production of them could create more jobs for some people.

    1. I agree, the job I'm thinking of probably won't be "overthrown" by robots but others may. Also great point on how companies are making them for self desire, not caring if the job market does down hill. But, according to a recent study, robots are predicted to replace up to 20 million factory jobs by 2030, so is making of robots really worth the plummet of the job market?

    2. i agree some company's will want and need real people to work the jobs plus with each robot someone needs to program/advise the robot.

      Delete
    3. Yes I agree some jobs don't need technology.

  7. I don't think that there will be that much advancement by the time i get my first job, and if there was it probably wouldn't effect me very much because of the area we live in. But somewhere down the line it could effect the jobs that companies need humans for.

    2. I agree that it wouldn't affect our first jobs because there won't be to much advancement.

    3. I agree with Bransen because I believe it would take around 10-20 more years for technology to officially take over.

  8. The job market will be almost just the same, technology will not take up all the jobs in the world and to be honest, I don't think technology will take over every job ever. The job market will be in need of jobs when I look for them.

    1. I agree, and also if more companies use robots there will also be more jobs open for Engineers and mechanics to repair machines, and come up with new ideas for machines.

    2. I agree because there's a lot of jobs that we don't need robots for.

    3. I agree because I think that technology will evolve but it will do it in a slow and steady fashion. The world won't rush into new things it will take time.

  9. I feel like when I get my firsts job the job market won't look all that different because technology won't be anymore advanced than they are now.

    1. That is true, we will be in the job market within a few years from now, and change might not happen but, there's a big chance that technology might advance throughout time so we aren't really sure if we will get our "dream job" or look for something else.

    2. I agree with Brooklynn because it would probably take atleast 20 years for jobs to change drastically.

  10. I don't think the technology won't advance by the time I get my first job. I think in the next 10 years it won't change enough to effect my job that much.

  11. I think you have to look forward and see what would be the best career to go into with the growing technology. There are a lot of computer based jobs which would be a good thing to go into because the technology is only going to go up from now. I don't think that technology will be extremely advanced by the time we get our first jobs but I think the next few generations would be affected. But, the growth will be steady and people will be able to ease into it.

    1. I agree, jobs may be different, but positions will not be outright eliminated per se. You'll have to be able to adapt and work with advancing technology, but it won't put you out of a job.

  12. With more and more technology is being created, robots are taking some of our jobs for example: carriers, building, atms, accounting on the phone and so forth. I'd say that when I get to the job market once I'm older, I'd say you might have to take another look at a different career if technology keeps advancing in the years to come. In my opinion, the job market will look pretty different when our generation gets to that point in time, looking for jobs may be difficult because of robots taking some jobs that we humans have worked for for many MANY years

    1. Remember that robots are created by humans. If humans can be the ones to bring the robots into the world we could easily get rid of them if it gets to a point that is that bad and not providing the good things.

    2. I agree if it gets to the point of us having to shut them down there should be control center so it's not even a thought of happening.

    3. It may be difficult in the sense that robots have already taken over jobs that used to require many many humans to do, but that has also made things much more efficient. And there will be more jobs, especially when you think about who has to maintain and be directly involved with the machines. In a way, the robots are also creating jobs, even though they may replace some older ways of doing things.

  13. Yes, when I was younger I wanted to be a welder but know everything is becoming mechanical but now I might switch to something else because I don't want to be programing a robot all day.

  15. Realistically, in the two-ish years left before I have to go out and live my life as an adult, I don't think things will of changed THAT much, in the sense of available jobs or types of work. There definitely will be some different and newer aspects than if I had a career already, but I don't think everything will be like completely flipped on its head. It might be harder to get a specific job you want, especially if that field is already having technology integrated, but it won't be impossible. Technology takes a while to move from an idea to an actual real life tool, and in the small timeframe until I am able to work, I don't think the world will change fantastically.

    1. I agree with Sophia because when you have a certain job to do but technology is already in that field of work it will be harder to find that job.

  16. Technological change has reshaped the workplace continually over the past two centuries since the Industrial Revolution, but not that much. If you go to a job, not every single job has some type of technology/robot doing it for them. I found that "We find that about 60 percent of all occupations have at least 30 percent of activities that are technically automatable." I don't think technology will change when I get my first job, but it might change little by little in the next ten years.

    ReplyDelete
  17. IF technology changes so fast, this means that most occupations will change, and more people will have to work with technology. Highly skilled workers working with technology will benefit. Agreeing with Darian, we did create robots for a purpose, not to just be there. Why would we create robots in the first place if they are efficient? Machines with technology will adapt in the future from now, not very fast, but they will.

    ReplyDelete
  18. On the other hand, low-skilled workers working with technology will be able to achieve more in terms of output and productivity. It might change the way you work for the better or worse. You will need new skills, have opportunities, you will have to know your role working with technology also. Technology doesn't destroy jobs, but changes them. With the use of technology, some jobs are being created.

    1. I disagree, tech is improving everyday and could possibly happen in 5-10 years, it is advancing very quickly.

    2. i feel like it will take longer than 10 years to make the advanced technology, let alone how long it will take to get them all approved. Plus i dont think theyll get approved because if your not getting paid as a human you cant pay taxes so the government will be getting no money.

  20. Humans can do a lot more than robots in my opinion. Say if a robot is invented to do the moves and the procedure of a basic surgery and something goes wrong the machine wont know what to do. either way feel like human jobs will always be around because im sure people are going to have to supervise the machines.
