The Making of an Online Celebrity

The Making of an Online Celebrity

There has NEVER been a time in the history of the planet when people had the ability to become instant "celebrities" as you can today. Think about it: Philip DeFranco, Rhett and Link, Justin Bieber - a person can be "discovered" instantly, just by posting a video - even a SIX SECOND video.

Read this article from 2015 about a Vine "celebrity", named Jerome Jarre. Take a look at the videos that are linked in the article also:

"Jerome Jarre: The Making of a Vine Celebrity"

Not only has this guy become famous in an instant, but it also looks like he's not just a "flash in the pan" because it seems as though he understands how to use social media apps to promote himself and other things around him. [Update: He and everyone else IS a "flash in the pan" as far as Vine is concerned - since they pulled the plug on Vine!]

Had you heard of Jerome before reading the article? What do you think of what he's done on Vine?  What do you think about this kind of opportunity with mobile apps, such as Snapchat? Can anybody do it? Will such fame last, and is it something that can be made into a legitimate business?

HERE is his YouTube channel.

  1. I don't think the fame will last because a lot of people of vine got deleted they sorta went unknown and don't really know where they are at this point.

    1. I agree it is kind of lost work. His vines are lost in time. I think that he made enough money to like the rest of his life tough.

    2. I agree that most of the people got lost when it was deleted, but there are also other opportunities, like some people started making youtube videos after and are still famous.

    3. I agree because not only does doing something repetitive fade away in popularity, but Vine was discontinued, so your popularity is completely faded.

    4. I agree with B but if he keeps making good videos theres a big possibility that the fame could last.

  2. I have seen this dude before, but I'm not really fan of his work though. I think that this kind of opportunity with mobile apps is pretty crazy because you can post a video of you singing in Walmart with cowboy boots on and become viral. Also I think that everybody can do it too because there are people that are online famous because they stole a laptop from a store.

    1. I agree with Tanner in a way because people only want to see what they want to see and if they like what they see they''ll like you but only until they find someone else that posts more of what they like. the fame wont last forever

  3. I think becoming famous online is pretty cool but you don't know when or when not people don't wanna see you anymore. You have to have a back up plane because not everyone is gonna wanna see your videos or whatever. You may hit your peak tommorow and make a ton of money, then the next you get no views and you have no money. You don't know if you'll ever blow up or not even get a view

    1. I agree with Ryder because it would be cool to be famous but you do not know if people are going to like see your content anymore.

    2. I agree with Ryder because you never know if you're going to be famous or not. And then if you do become famous, you don't know for sure if people will still like seeing your content after a while.

    3. i agree with Ryder because if one video gets a lot of views it doesn't mean your next videos are going to get any views at all

  4. I've seen Jerome Jarre sometimes before but I didn't really know what he did. I think it's pretty cool that people can get famous of social media but I also feel like it's sad of what this world is coming to. I think the fame can kind of wear of but it will not be forgotten.

    1. I don't agree with Tad at all, because there are people such as Supreme Patty who started off putting lemon juice in his eyes, and now he has a 2 million dollar net worth without working a day in his life.

    4. First off, use your punctuation. Next, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. And lastly, he is making a living off of selling his own merchandise, he is just trying to secure the bag.

      Delete
    5. But he cant secure the bag if his sales are down and less fans are watching his videos and stuff

  6. A lot of people can get famous from social media over night but most of them are famous for a certain amount of time then there fame kind of dies out.

    2. I agree with them because most social media dies and something else takes over.

    3. I disagree because, there are also people who are able to stay famous for a long period of time because they are able to come up with new and interesting content that their fans enjoy.

      Delete
    4. You don't know that its not going to be there forever. No one thought that Vine would die it just happened.

    5. I agree with danny because the fame always dies out on the fame you get off a short video

  7. I do not think that people can make it into a real bussiness because that platform will be forgotten some day.

    1. I agree because you might not end up staying famous.

    2. I agree because you have an extremely small chance of making it a buisiness, so it's worthless.

    3. I agree because you'll most likely be forgotten by fans as time goes by.

  8. I think that the fame is fun when it lasts. He most likely had to save his earnings from vine. Vine has died and I think to stay famous you have to evolve to other apps.

    1. I agree because he had to have been saving money cause he would have gone broke by now because I haven't heard his name in a while

    2. Yeah fame is fun while it lasts but it has it's pros and cons.

  9. Jerome had the opportunity to make money through his phone entertaining people and making a living off if that but, that platform won't be there forever. He made his living off of vine and vine got taken down.

    1. That's true, vine did get taken down which means his way of earn cash is gone and his fame will disappear sooner or later.

  10. I think online fame can be turned into a successful business, because online celebrities can branch off and do different things such as selling merchandise.

  11. I've never heard of him before this post but I have seen other people that do things like he does. I think he does good things with social media. I think it is a good opportunity to get yourself out there. Anyone can try and get famous on the internet but not everyone is successful. (Nicole is trying to get Tik Tok famous) Most people that I see on YouTube have been around for awhile so some people's fame lasts you just have to keep your feed updated and interesting.

    1. I agree with Darian sometimes it takes a bit to get recognition for what you Good luck to Nicole.

    1. I agree, bc a lot of people don't even consider being a Youtuber or anything along that lines to be a "real" job, even though a lot of people make loads of money from it.

  13. I've never heard of this guy before and I would've never thought his videos on Vine would have got him popular but I suppose it's possible to get famous with these types of videos but it wouldn't last. It can't be a business directly from the videos.

    1. I agree because without him uploading/updating his videos each day or so, he wouldn't have grown into a famous lifestyle. But, everything must go down so the fame won't last forever and you can't really make a business for yourself by posting videos.

      Delete
    2. I agree with Landon like how do you know if your content is gonna last you don't know while you're uploading you just have to wait.

  14. Without him becoming famous through his vines, I would have never heard of Jerome Jarre, and I'm surprised something as easy as uploading a picture or video that it could become the start of a great future. But all things must end and the fame will die down, and I'm just upset that that is how our economy works now, everything is based off interests and likes from a stupid video or photo YOU think other people will like, just to get those extra likes.

  15. I've never heard of Jerome Jarre before but I've seen other people do stuff that he does and they got famous from it. But most people that try to do stuff like this to get famous usually don't make it or their fame doesn't last.

    1. I agree with mason because alot of people dont stay famous for long or they don't even make it be famous.

  16. Personally, I didn't have Vine growing up, so I didn't watch his videos. I've heard of him later on in life. Jerome got famous because he made his own unique content that people liked watching. He went downhill when Vine shut down. Maybe he can start back up with a new app such as Youtube or Tik tok.

  17. A lot of famous people are popular on social media. Some stand out from each other by streaming game play, singing, just blogging, makeup tutorials, etc. Jerome and others fame ended because Vine died, fame can last for some people, they just have to create videos everyone loves.

    1. I think a lot people are making a good career on social media making videos. If it works for them to do this and they are making a living I can't see why they wouldn't continue their work. I watch a lot of youtube which probably helps them make money too and I find it entertaining enough to keep watching.

  18. Sometimes fame is achieved by putting hard work into your videos, others can post a random picture or video and become famous. Anyone could be famous if they wanted to put their selves out there. I think it would be really cool to be famous, but you would have to stay committed. People would expect things from you every other day or on the daily.

    3. I agree with Sophia, if you can't keep up with what's popular and keep making good content that people want, then you're probably going to lose a lot of fans or followers.

  21. I think that I have heard of him before reading the article, but probably only in passing. I think it's a big thing to be able to do what he did with an app like Vine, and the way he understands how to spread his content on other apps is amazing. I don't know how far he will really be able to get on apps like Snapchat, especially when it concerns monetizing. He won't really be able to profit from posting on something like Snapchat. He could take his fanbase and everything he's built up, and try to move it to like YouTube, but that might be difficult to do, plus he's used to the format of Snapchat and Vine. It might be hard for him to keep his fame going, but if he finds a solid way, he'll probably be able to profit at least a while longer.
