The Cloud
You've probably heard it said that the world has gotten smaller. This is true because, since the development of the Internet (the 'Cloud') and such things as Tweeting, texting, instant messaging, social networking (Facebook, Instagram), we've grown much closer. The distance between us, geographically, doesn't matter near as much anymore.
In many ways, this is a good thing. But, in some ways - not so much. While the world has grown closer together, we're also closer to those people who would try to hurt us or take advantage of us. Most people are good - but it's easier than ever for those that aren't to target people who aren't prepared, or aware of the dangers.
So, you've just met a student who has NEVER been on the internet. Their family just moved to the area, and just signed up for internet access at home for the first time. Knowing what you know right now, what would you warn that person about? What would you tell them to be careful of, when they're on the Web? How would you tell them to behave - what precautions should they take?
You don't have to look this up - base it on what you already know - what you've already learned. You CAN research a little on the internet if you need to...
REMEMBER: Each week's blog is worth a total of 30 points:
1st response: 10
respond to two classmates: 20 (10ea)
Total = 30pts
These points add up - there are at least 10-12 posts throughout the semester, which add up to a decent percentage of your grade! (An EASY percentage.)

I would tell first of all not to give anyone their information, and not to trust every thing that they read on the internet.
ReplyDeleteDon't believe everything you see because there is a lot of fake news on the internet.
DeleteI agree with you. Not every thing you see or read on the internet is true and the people who post it are ofen trying to trick you.
DeleteYou should probably only trust information that you get from reliable websites.
DeleteAlways keep a low profile on the internet
Deletei think the cloud is cia

ReplyDeleteI would take the time to show them the things they would like to know about the computer and try to help them as best i can. Tell them that they shouldn't believe on the internet and to share any very personal information.
ReplyDeletei would agree with her because that would be the nice thing to do.
DeleteI would tell them to not give anyone their passwords for anything so they don't get hacked.
ReplyDeleteI agree that you should not give anyone your passwords, because getting hacked sucks.
DeleteI agree with mason because if you give out your passwords anyone could log onto your account

ReplyDeletedont use the internet cause no matter what people can always get to it.
ReplyDeleteI think that if you use the internet correctly and not give anyone your password personal info you should be fine. I wouldn't open any emails or direct messages unless you know who sent it to you
Deletei agree with mason don't give passwords out or go on websites that you never heard of.
Deletei agree that you can use the internet safely, you just have to be cautious
DeleteIf you'r safe on the web it will reduce you chances of getting in trouble.
DeleteI would warn them about the dangers of websites and the viruses you can get my looking at sketchy websites. The creepy people who use the internet, the hackers who can see everything you do.
ReplyDeletebe cautious of what you post because it's always on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Brooklynn because once you post something on the internet even if you delete it, it'll always be there.
Deletebe careful not to share your personal information on the internet, and when you post something it is on the internet forever
ReplyDeleteYes, there have been a lot of things on the news lately of people's pasts coming back from stuff they posted earlier in life. It is getting some people into trouble now.
DeleteI agree, especially how you said when somethings on the internet its on there forever.
DeleteI would tell them not to give anyone their personal information. I would also tell them not to give anyone their password.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you because if you give someone your password they can log into your account.
DeleteI would tell the new student that the internet can track everything you do. If you give them location access they can use that for anything. Also, whatever you look up is seen. For example, if you look up "nike shoes" your computer will start giving you ads for shoes on all websites you go on. It always know what you are doing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Darian because it would be kinda weird for a computer to know exactly what you look at and what you want 24/7 by just excepting that location access.
DeleteBlack mailing, cyber bullying, creepy people on the internet pretending to be someone their not.
ReplyDeleteBe careful with what you post and send, and avoid sharing too much about yourself, whether it be talking to someone or on things you post.
DeleteAnd any sketchy ad ever
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteAlso be careful with who you talk to who you don't know in person because they could be pretending to be someone their not to get personal information from you so they can black mail you.
DeleteI would tell them to check social media and see whats going on in the out side world. I would tell them also not to put their info any where on the internet and be careful.
ReplyDeleteI agree, because if you do give out your information, somebody could steal your identity.
Deletei agree because there are, alot of new things that you can find and learn out there.
DeleteYeah I agree with you about being careful because you could get hacked.
DeleteI would warn the student about clicking on sketchy websites and tell him not to give his passwords or any other personal information out to any weird websites.
ReplyDeleteand dont use mp3 downloaders cause they have acess to ur entire computer
Deletelearn to spell
Deletei agree that you have to be careful what websites you go on
DeleteI would warn them about sharing personal information (address, full name etc), and tell them to be careful with clicking on ads, things like that so they don't get viruses.
ReplyDeleteI agree because it can be that easy to get information like passwords and full names by just clicking on a random ad.
DeleteI strongly agree with you about sharing personal information. I also liked how you said to be careful while clicking ads.
Deletenobody can really be who they say they are. this world is full of predators who track innocent children over social media because it's easier to hide their age, looks and who they really are, like catfishers.
DeleteI would say not to put your information out there and use it as the tool it is. Don't believe everything you see on the internet.
ReplyDeleteIm in a firm agreement, not everything you see can always be true on the internet.
Deletei agree not everything on the internet is real most of it is but theres always those fake news websites for example.
DeleteI would warn them about the dangers of the web like creepy people who can easily disguise themselves as a 12 year old playing Minecraft or a 24 year old model on a dating app.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to really know who someone is through the Internet.
DeleteExplore the internet while keeping a low profile, don't accept any PMs from random people (if you receive any), and don't click on ads
ReplyDeleteI think I would warn a person about all of the viruses and terrible websites on the internet. I would tell them to be careful of all of the scammers and hackers. I would also tell them that they should use websites that are safe and confidential. Lastly I would tell them they should just be careful of who they talk to on the internet unless you know them personally.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't use the internet until you were warned on what to do and how to be careful.
ReplyDeleteWOW. THAT IS AN AMAZING LOGIC B SBRAG
Deletewhat if they really needed the internet like that day to start college classes or something
DeleteYou still need to know how to be safe on the internet, you need to be warned of the dangers of the internet
DeleteBefore you share info at a business, a office, or online, etc. Ask why they need it, the consequences of not sharing, and will your information be safe. Also, don't buy anything that offers free products or services without knowing what you can get yourself into.
ReplyDeleteAlso while creating passwords, make them something you only know, involve capital letters, and add numbers to it so nobody could log into your account.
ReplyDeleteAnother example for being safe on the internet is to log out of sites when you're done using them especially when you use a public network or computer. This happens the mostly a problem when the site holds a lot of personal information. Like for an example your credit card numbers.
ReplyDeleteDon't talk to anyone you don't know. Don't post anything you don't want anyone seeing.
ReplyDeleteThere could spooky guys and girls that want you and thats not good.
DeleteAlso mostly everything you upload on the internet always stays on the internet.
ReplyDeleteThis is true because police and like the fbi can find anything on the internet and you want to be super careful with what you post
DeleteI agree with Tanner even if you delete it can still be found.
